Folly Gras Celebration

When: Sat., Feb. 22, 1-5 p.m. 2014
Phone: (843) 513-1836
Price: Free
NOLA may be where it all started, but Folly Beach’s Mardi Gras wants in on the gluttonous holiday. And Center Street will be, well, the center of all things bead thrown, king caked, and booze oriented. (The town of Folly Beach is closing off all streets to vehicles from Hudson down.) “Four thousand people came out last year,” says Mary Cunningham, event manager. “It’s a great time. There’s even a parade at 2 p.m. with floats, boats, and golf carts. There are a lot of creative people out here.” Feel free to go all out — making your own costume is encouraged. In fact, prizes will be awarded to the folks with the most impressive floats and costumes. Grab some grub from Blu, Rita’s Seaside Grille, Loggerhead’s, Locklear’s, Taco Boy, Folly Beach Shrimp Company, Follywood, Woody’s, and the Grille. The party will also have music from the Shaking Martinis, Soul Fish, Gaslight Street, Hollow Point, and the Hungry Monks. Admission is free, and open containers are permitted on the streets but not the beach.
