Every second Friday of the month Charleston County Parks and Recreation takes participants out on a bird walk. Birding experts who work for CCPRC and Audubon South Carolina lead these walks at Folly Beach County Park and this month they’re going to go to the Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve, which is on the northeast end of Folly Island. This land is undeveloped and provides a great view of the Morris Island Lighthouse along with abundant wildlife such as dolphins and possibly bobcats. Sarah Reynolds, the Public Information Coordinator for CCPRC, tells us that guides will also touch on the natural history of the area and other nature-related topics. Walkers will meet at the entrance to the Preserve in hopes to see Wilson’s Plover and Painted Bunting, among many others, and considering fall migration has started, there are likely to be quite a few shorebirds fluttering around.
