Re: “Herb Silverman Takes the "Righteous" to Task

On the contrary, science is an outgrowth of that very sense of wonderment. Which is the whole point. Scientists are the kind of people that look at the sky, are uterly amazed and say "i wonder why/how/etc". And then set about trying to figure it out. Religious people look and say "beautiful. Glad god made it", and walk away. Religion, in my opinion, is actualy a wonder killer. If i had a penny for every time a religious person told me "you should not inquire into x, because it is only for god to know" i'd be rich (and yes, i was raised by very religious parents, and know the bible quite well). Which is what they said about the earth being flat. or about gravity. Or about experimenting on corpses to figure out how the human body works. Or when they did the first heart surgery. You want to use religion to try to make sense of your own personal life, fine, its your life, more power to you. Some people actually do better with religion in their life. But please, do not use the bible to dictate policy or to define scientific truth. It doesn't exactly have a good track record of doing that.
