The Feast of the Fishes is an old Italian tradition typically celebrated on Christmas Eve, stemming from the Roman Catholic custom of abstinence from meat on holy days. Families would celebrate the birth of baby Jesus with a feast made up of seven different seafood dishes. Cannon Green has compiled four of Charleston’s most accomplished chefs to cook alongside New Orleans Chef Ryan Prewitt of Pêche Seafood Grill to create their own rendition of this ancient Italian feast. The chefs will team up with local seafood purveyors to create four courses along with wine pairings. Prewitt will work with Hiser Sea Farms, Frank McMahon of Hank’s Seafood Restaurant will be paired with St. Jude Farms, Jeremiah Bacon of The Macintosh partners with Abundant Seafood, Amalia Scatena of Cannon Green teams up with Clammer Dave’s Sustainable Gourmet, and Vinson Petrillo of Zero George will finish up the night with desserts. “With each course, the purveyor will get up with the chef and talk about their dish to give some information and bring awareness to sustainable seafood,” says Missie Parker, events manager of Cannon Green. A percentage of the proceeds from the Feast will go to Good Catch, S.C. Aquarium’s sustainable seafood initiative.
