Fast & French owners featured in Cola gallery

Artful Mill Life

Gwylene Gallimard and Jean-Marie Mauclet, owners of Gaulart et Maliclet Café aka Fast & French on Broad Street, are hosting a gallery-wide installation at 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia. Titled Olympia, after the historic Olympia Mills near the U.S.C. campus, the exhibit explores mill life and its culture, past and present. It opened on Jan. 7 and will run though Feb. 21.

Every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. until Feb. 17, there will be a night of discussions and/or presentations about the historical mill and the culture that developed around it. A special presentation called “Voices and Visuals from the Mills” will be held Feb. 13 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. where visitors will be treated to songs about the mills from the Smithsonian Institution collection, short films about the South, and a film about the mill strikes in 1934 by Tom Terrill. On Feb. 22, all of the pieces from the exhibit will be sold in a live auction.
