Farm to Plate Picnic

Slow Food Charleston hosts a country-style picnic at Thackeray Farms on Wadmalaw Island. Farm tours will be led by event hosts and local farmers Shawn Thackeray of Thackeray Farms and Rita Bachmann of Rita’s Roots. Guests are asked to bring their own picnic dinner, beverages, and blankets or chairs. Benefits Slow Food Charleston’s Organic Garden Project at Sanders-Clyde Elementary School in downtown Charleston. Local author and Slow Food Charleston board member Holly Herrick will be on hand to sign and sell her newly released cookbook, Southern Farmers Market Cookbook, and a portion of the proceeds from sales will benefit Slow Food Charleston. In addition, Slow Food will host an American Pie Auction, which will feature various homemade pies auctioned off to the highest bidder by local foodie and event planner, Mitchell Crosby of JMC Charleston. Live bluegrass will be provided by Ricky Rio of Legare Farms.
