The story of the three Fail sisters, all of whom meet untimely ends, is a fable with more than a faint whiff of Greek drama. Not only are there lost parents, doomed love, and, above all, the ever-present specter of death, there’s also a chorus to help tell the story. But PURE is adding something special to the mix: They’re enlisting visual artist Susan Klein, who will have an exhibit at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art from Oct. 24-Dec. 5, to help design the show. “She’ll provide a great deal of set design, and some of the costumes and props,” says Failure director and PURE co-founder Rodney Lee Rogers. “She’ll unify that artistically.” This play in particular should lend itself well to this kind of partnership, as Failure is a highly theatrical play. “It’s such an imaginative piece,” Rogers says. “There’s a lot to figure out, and a lot of work, but it’s also very, very exciting.” —Elizabeth Pandolfi
