Escape to Escapada

Beachware label hosts a swanky rooftop reception

Everybody wore their summery best at the Pavilion Bar on Wednesday evening in celebration of the launch party for Escapada Living’s beach line. The models, clad in colorful resort wear, glided around the sunny rooftop in luxe Escapada swimsuits and cover-ups and festive jewelry by Hyla Dewitt. Guests gazed admiringly at the jeweled, bright orange cover-up that rested gracefully around one model’s shoulders. “You couldn’t wear that to beach — you’d get it all dirty!” I exclaimed. The woman next to me nodded in agreement. “It’s meant for a fancy pool party. Like this one.”

The appetizers were delicious and abundant, which was fortunate, given the crowd. We munched on crackers topped with smoked salmon, mini spring rolls, cheese, fruit, and other hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chef Demetre Castanas of Grill 225. There were also sweets from Twenty-Six Divine.

We caught up with designer Natalia, who is as gracious and well-dressed as one would expect. “I wanted the models to mingle within the guests, for a more informal type of fashion display,” she explains. She couldn’t have picked a better location to showcase her work. The sunset over Charleston’s skyline was warm but not sweltering, and the pool had an uncanny sparkle. Props to the Pavilion Bar staff for keeping food and beverage services flowing smoothly in a packed house.
