Elliotborough Block and Roll

When: Sat., May 17, 3-9 p.m. 2014
Price: Free
If a block party makes you think of a weird Brady Bunch-esque gathering that forces you to mingle with your neighbors the Dittmiers, then you need to head to the Elliotborough Block ‘n’ Roll Music Fest and Block Party for an update. D’Allesandro’s is organizing the neighborhood gathering and shutting down Bogard Street to bring live music, vendors, and a beer garden to the ’hood. “This day is a little different because the setup will be on Bogard Street between D’Al’s and Cutty’s, instead of St. Philip, so instead of tucked around the corner, the stage will be the center of the action,” says Marshall Hudson, event organizer. “One huge blessing is that the city has allowed us to operate a beer garden, along with the full bar at Cutty’s, whereas in past block parties if you wanted to drink you had to stay inside either D’Al's or Cutty's and away from the stage — so that’s awesome!” And the block party really wants to emphasize what the neighborhood has to offer, so they’ve teamed up with local merchants in the area. Mudd Pie Girl Bakery, Brown’s Court, and Autobanh add to the food, but you can be sure that D’Al's will be slinging pies all day as well. And T-shirt maker Artisan Tees, sports apparel maker Marsh Wear Clothing, vintage clothes seller Red Rose Vintage, skate shop Continuum, and lifestyle shop Museum of Living Arts will also have booths to browse. SUSTO, Jordan Igoe (full band), Johnny Delaware (full band), Ka’tet, WO’SE (African drum troop), FIASCO, and more are set to perform.
