Henrys upstairs Jazz club on S Market with Lonnie Hamilton and The Diplomats - mid 80s through 90s, Lonnie Hamilton Alto Sax, Bill Berger Piano, Chuck King Fender Bass, Donald Fields Drums, Mildred Brevard Vocals. A great hangout for Locals & Tourist. One of the few Jazz scenes in CHS at the time and remember Charleston is the Birthplace of Jazz in 1891 (via Jenkins Orphanage Band) and New Orleans Stole it from us! .. Lets take it back from N'awlins
Jenkins Orphanage Band referred to themselves as a pickanniny band, and played Geechie songs the beginning of Jazz. :~)
