In April, Philly-based electro/jam-rock band Disco Biscuits entertained a big crowd at the Charleston Music Hall with tons of new material from their latest studio collection, Planet Anthem. This Tuesday, bassist Mark “Brownie” Brownstein, guitarist Jon Gutwillig, keyboardist Aron Magner, and drummer Allen Aucoin return to town for a two-night stint on the IOP. Planet Anthem gets down all over the joint with tripped-out funk beats and weird electro-grooves. Some of the 13-song collection is guitar-driven funk. Some tunes retain the typical “Bisco” stylings fans know best. “The goal was to simply make a good album together,” Magner told City Paper. “By far, it was the most collaborative effort we’ve done. We now understand how to work together and work separately. That relationship and dialog translates musically as well.” —T. Ballard Lesemann
