A wickedly campy send-up of 1950s sci-fi movies. Part of Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

It's not for (little) boys
The close encounters in this sci-fi send-up are not suitable for minors. The tone is closer to Rocky Horror and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom than Space Chimps. It's a nostalgic run-down of everything that makes '50s sci-fi flicks and screwball comedies so endearing. Produced by the Footlight Players, the story starts with reports of alien activity in Lizard Lick, Fla. The Daily Bugle sends booze-loving photographer Gregory Graham and reporter Mattie van Buren to check out the claims. They encounter eccentric swamp dwellers, Plutonians, and lots of silly dialogue.

Watch for unidentified objects
Expect to see saucer-sized lumps on the leading ladies' throats. The show's four females are played by men in drag, reflecting the Hollywood allure of classic leading ladies and relocating them to Big Momma's House. The cross-dressing, along with cheerfully low-rent set dressings, helps give Devil Boys a style similar to an Ed Wood film. Unlike Wood, writers Buddy Thomas and Kenneth Elliott and director David Moon know what they're doing. There are plenty of clever remarks covering everything from newspaper circulation to extra-terrestrial insemination.

It came from New York
After an award-winning run at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival, the New York Post called it "fast, tawdry, and very funny." NYTheatre.com guarantees that "you'll laugh your anal probe off."
