Re: “Charleston can lead the country by getting its story straight

Hallelujah!! Thank you all and the author for your honesty to speak the TRUTH that is long-overdue in our 'genteel' city, built by enslaved black people, while whites historically [still] reap all the benefits and profit today accordingly with the cultural status quo. Don't kid yourself folks! Freedom, justice, nor socio-economic parity have never been granted where rightfully earned and need I say well-deserved in the "Land of Plenty." For whom?? Forgiveness is a personal act, not a blanket freely given where one-size-fits-all, nor can speak for all.

The 'system' of white privilege is designed to keep our fellow black brothers and sisters oppressed. It's the New Jim Crow playing out before our eyes, and that of our children, as well as theirs. What benevolence are we [still] showing the nation and the world? That we are blind to the pain and suffering of OUR black citizens while we whites continue to economically benefit through our oppressive, out-dated marketing practices and politico "apathy" and "confusion."

Speaking as a Charlestonian, if one is interested in learning the TRUTH about the Holy City according to the Holy Bible--best place to start, I heartily recommend taking "the best inclusive tour in Charleston" by the only Native Charleston Gullah Historian and Anthropologist in the world, Godfrey Khill. He operates Gullah Gullah Tours daily from the Charleston Visitors Center. A real eye-opener, Godfrey is the only black qualified tour guide in Charleston. He knew his information inside out and then some. Godfrey was so informative about REAL Gullah history with an incredibly beautiful twist to it all. It was a spiritual journey. What a pleasant surprise!!!!!

You can go on one of the 'white' poshy elite tours with a white guide/staffer who has their white perspective narrative on Gullah and slavery or you can go on a truthful one. "Like a skilled builder I laid a foundation...Each builder must choose with care how to build on it." (Corinthians 3:10 KJV)

I think the biggest component that really resonated with me is the idea that we as a community really need to come together to create change for ourselves for what we want. Until we can live together in Unity and work together we're not going to make any progress. We should not sit in a corner but engage the society we are in to make an impact based on our divine agenda--PEACE.
