Re: “Can global warming or any science be corrupted by politics?

You're comparing idiotic, fringe beliefs held 100 years or more ago about race and homophobia with the overwhelming science that demonstrates that global warming is as good as fact? That's utterly ridiculous and demonstrates a dire understanding of basic science - let alone climate science.

As you've already set it up as a politically-motivated divide, let's continue: you conservatives appear to revel and take pride in your ignorance and scientific illiteracy. You grasp hold of any talking point from any talking head on any subject as though it were equivalent to statements issued by NASA, the Royal Society or other credible scientific outlet.

You appear to determine reality based on how it affects your wallet and your perverse notion of 'liberty' - which essentially means doing whatever it is you want to do, regardless of the consequences to the environment or anyone else.

Proud, determined ignorance will only get you so far. And when nature sets the rules, you won't be able to bully your way past.

Re: “Climate change and S.C. tourism

> Worldwide, sea levels are expected to rise between 0.6 feet and two feet in the next century, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

That's out of date.

> By 2100, global sea-level is likely to rise at least twice as much as projected by Working Group 1 of the IPCC AR4, for unmitigated emissions it may well exceed 1 meter. The upper limit has been estimated as – 2 meters sea-level rise by 2100. Sea-level will continue to rise for centuries after global temperature have been stabilized and several meters of sea level rise must be expected over the next few centuries.

That means 4 to 8 feet. Katrina will be like a burst water main in comparison.

And all the while the science is mounting and showing that we need to move ever more urgently, we've got Deniers ranting about conspiracies and billionaires funding professional liars to derail any meaningful action.
