Dance at Noon: E.E. Motion Dance Company

When: Wed., June 2, 12 p.m. 2010
Price: $16/adults, $13/seniors and students

This company addresses audiences with abstract narratives and imagery that stimulate thought provoking ideas, and kinesthetic and emotional responses. Touching the viewer with sight and sound both breathtaking and serene, the style has a dynamic force and an athletic physicality that is musically inventive and expresses an engaging and moving picture. Part of Piccolo Spoleto Festival's Dance at Noon Series.

He's deep
The founder, sole choreographer, and artistic director of the young modern dance company E.E. Motion Dance, E.E. Balcos, has an appreciation for character relationships onstage. One element that will surely set his Charlotte, N.C.-based company apart from the others at this year's Dance at Noon Series is the storytelling intrinsic to every piece he choreographs.

He's dark and mysterious
Balcos leans toward darker themes, like the trio we'll see at Piccolo called "So Far," which features three characters who have just experienced some sort of apocalyptic event.

A dancer who can read music
Balcos studied music and voice during college, and all his dance pieces "make musical sense."
