Re: “Debut Weekly Commentary for The American Conservative: What is Sarah Palin?

Ron Paul is going nowhere. Jack and the other Paul disciples cannot stand to see Sarah Palin drawing crowds. To put her down Jack claims she is part of the mainstream republicans. The most mainstrean republican I can think of is Haley Barber. Gov Barber sees Sarah as a threat to the party bosses. Hence his answer when asked if Sarah was qualified to be president. Yes, constitutionally. Since then the rest of the self annointed potential candidates have hidden behind Haley's response. Hardly what I would call as a welcoming into the Republican mainstream. The left such as Cris Matthews and apparently Ron Paul worshippers such as Jack are almost rendered apoplectic by her continued success with such large numbers of people.

Ron is going no place. Like Gingerich you would want to have him around as an advisor, but never in charge. Sarah has plenty of time to fill out the imaginary questionares for "pundits" such as Jack. Right now she is doing what she has to do. As the Gov of Alaska she was being totally distracted from governing and pushed into poverty by the Alaska law which enabled frivolous lawsuits to be filed and she then had to respond. Very time consuming and expensive. That was all the news she could make. The MSM press was absorbed with the number of suits and not the lack of substance. There is no such thing as the indespensable person. Her replacement will do just fine.
She now has written a book ensuring financial security for her family. She is free to support candidates running for office for the 2010 election cycle. She will pick up green stamps and be able to test the waters for her future. She will get great exposure and a chance to meet many influential people and discuss issues. If after the 2010 cycle she believes the opportunity is ripe then she can run. If not we can let Romney, Huckabee, or Pawlenty be the "Bob Dole" for 2012.

It appears to me Jack is intent just like the left on destroying Sarah as sson as possible. In that way she will not offer an obstacle for their choice.

There is usually more to a story than the first chapter. and that is about where we are. I think over time she gets to be more popular. Her standing on issues get fleshed out. I use Joe Biden as my example of the value of beltway experience. In her debate with Biden she got it right he didn't. If she had failed the press would have slaughterd her. As it was the worst they could say was she held her own. Now I readily admit Biden is a low standard. But Then the press claimed he was a wonderful choice because he brought so much foreign policy experience.

We shall see. By the way I am in my 70s, a naval academy grad, a career military officer, with two gradute degrees, ten years experience in the aerospace industry, and 12 years experience as an attorney. I grew up a male chauvenist who still thinks women should have very limited participation in the military. I saw something in Reagan I liked even before his remarkable speech on behalf of Goldwater in 1964. After his speech I was sure he was destined for bigger things. I see something in Palin that I believe will catapault her to bigger things. Maybe it is wishful thinking. I don't think so.
