Re: “Confronting segregation in Charleston

A distinct choice of words to provoke the thought of the reader. But no judgement just an observation. Here comes the judement. I do find it interesting that blacks and whites however the seperation lines are drawn, socialy, ecomonically, or racial bias is seen as "that is the way it is deal with it". I am sorry but the lines do exist and those blind to it and those who don't take issue with it are the folks who are creating them and everyone is to blame.

Re: “Confronting segregation in Charleston

Well freedom fighter I think you are taking the authors opinion and example in your neighborhood as personal attack. I will agree a historically black high school band competition is quite an extreme example but it makes the point of separation quite clear. If I were a resident in earshot I would may not attend, but wonder what all the drums are about? As a organizer I would take this article into consideration to invite all residents of the event. The reality of it is Sunday in the fall, football season. Most in attendance had a personal vested interest. Alison just wants us all to RSVP to an open mind via facebook b/c it is the thought that counts.

Re: “Confronting segregation in Charleston

Ok Freedom Fighter. Do you think Charleston has signs of voluntary separation of blacks and whites?

Re: “Confronting segregation in Charleston

I think the article is about inviting all to keep an open mind. I am sure there are folks who attend an AME church have decided to leave because they wanted to worship with all races. Not sure why you think anyone is telling anyone to do anything? It is an observation of the sad reality in my opinion. I have to choose to do things culturally without my friends because they do not have an open mind. Cid95 you could be one of my friends.
