Even “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” can sound impressive when an entire orchestra is playing it. For years, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s annual Holiday Pops! concert has been a staple of the holiday season. And this year, you’ll get two chances to see it instead of just one. “Since Pops! usually takes place at the Gaillard, which is currently under construction for renovations, the show has been moved to the smaller Sottile Theater and will run for two nights to account for the smaller venue,” says Nicole Ward, the CSO’s director of marketing. In addition to the orchestra, the CSO Chorus and the Charleston’s Children Chorus will perform along with mezzo-soprano Maria Elena Armijo and current CofC student soprano Kori Miller. Conductor James Stephenson, whose arrangements have been performed by orchestras across the country, will bring his own unique touch to Christmas classics like “Joy The The World” and “Here Comes Santa Claus.” Guests will also hear some original pieces by Stephenson like “Concerto for Cell Phone” and “Timeless Treasures.” The Holiday Pops! sells out each year, so advance tickets are the way to go.
