Re: “North Charleston hosts the Lowcountry's first gay pride event

Bleeding Heart I'm gay, but please explain to me what the heck a straight church, restaurant, school ect, is. Your statement is one of the reasons I'm not attending or supporting this rally. I don't want straight or gay anything. I want equality. You like so many others want the separation. I've attended several gay rallies and quite frankly what I've seen scares me. I'm also a father and I would not dare let my kid attend one. The behaviors of so many of the participants are so inappropriate. We say we want people to see us just as people but we make it so difficult when we go so far outside of the bounds of accepted public social behaviors. I want to be seen as a productive contributing hardworking American trying to provide for his family. I want my partner and I to have the same legal rights when it come to property and health. I don't need to parade down the street in leather paints with my ass cut out to demand that. I think we do more to hurt our cause than help. being gay is not about drag shows and late night parties but that's the image we portray. So until people like you stop using labels like gay schools, restaurants, churches, we will never move forward. Your eyes are on the wrong prize.
