Countdown to Cinco de Mayo

Get your plans ready before the tequila takes over

While Arizona is trying to reject their ties to Hispanic culture, we still dig it. Honestly, who would want to get rid of authentic Mexican food? We can't live on Taco Bell alone. So see what Charleston has to offer on Cinco de Mayo.

Tattooed Moose hosts “When in Rome Cinco de Mayo Party.” Starting at 4 p.m., there’ll be tequila and beer specials and a good ole fashioned piñata bashing (let's just hope the blindfolded participants are sober when they wield the big stick). The festivities will be followed by live music from Dante’s Camero at 10 p.m. Best of all, there’s no cover charge.

Centre Pointe Bar & Grill celebrates with all-day $1 martinis for the ladies, 30-cent wings, and $2 margaritas. The Grim Brothers will provide live music from 7-11 p.m.

While supplies last, both Taco Boy locations will be fully stocked with sombreros, mustaches, and flags for customers to enjoy. Graham Whorely and Kris Woodrum will entertain the Folly Beach scene, and Tumbao will play for the Downtown Chuck peeps. Costumes are encouraged.

Chef David Pell from Coast wants your appetite’s undivided attention as the restaurant features brews and margaritas from South of the Border as well as Latin-inspired dishes, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Social is holding a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser from 6-9 p.m. where they’ll offer margaritas, pacificos, sangria, and a few light appetizers. DJ Luigi makes another appearance to pump out some jams throughout the evening with special performances by Os Voadores Acrobatics-Capoeira. All proceeds will go to MotoNomadas/Bruce Peru Organization. Admission is $20.

The Mellow Mushroom in Mt. Pleasant hosts "Cinco de Mellow," a Mexi-beer dinner. Reservations are required.

And Charleston Young Professionals (CYP) mixes business with pleasure at the Dock Party and Cinco de Mayo Celebration from 6-8 p.m. on the Spirit of South Carolina. Guests will get to mingle with other professionals as well as “getting yourself out there.” Admission is $10 for CYP members, and $20 for non-members.
