Cooper River Bridge Run

When: Sat., April 6 2013
Price: $45
Run, jog, walk, or even crawl — it doesn’t matter as long as you make it to the finish line. April means it’s time for the Cooper River Bridge Run, when runners come in from all over the world and many locals flee the city as fast as they can. This year’s 10K foot race will feature 21 live bands playing music every quarter mile. Runners can jam out to music by local performers including Heyrocco, Will Hastings, Luke Cunningham, and Tyler Boone. If you didn’t sign up in time for the sold-out run, you can still wake up early to cheer on the sidelines. The Bridge Run starts early Saturday morning on Coleman Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant and ends on Meeting Street downtown. After the race, the party continues at the Finish Festival in Marion Square, which will include awards for runners by age group, live music and entertainment, vendors, food, and souvenirs. There are a couple of pre-run events too, to get you in the spirit. On Thurs. April 4, Blue Bicycle Books hosts their annual Bridge Run Reading. Guests can hear works by the Blue Bike’s owner Jonathan Sanchez and other staffers, and enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres. On Friday, bring the whole family to the Kids Run and Wonderfest at Hampton Park, where kids can enjoy pony rides, an obstacle course, and jump castles. This event will also include a kid’s 1-mile run around the park and guests can donate to five local charities: MUSC Children’s Hospital, Happy Wheels, Hugs for Harper, Abby’s Friends, and Keys for Hope. Oh, and don’t forget to carbo-load the night before the big race. For more information on the Bridge Run Reading visit You can find info on the Kids Run and Wonderfest, the 10k, and the Finish Festival on the Bridge Run’s website.
