Re: “Folly Beach Residents Report Police Harassment

A good point here "good to see this story generate good debate...as always somewhere between the 2 opposite opinions is the compromise solution...isn't that how deomocracy with a free press is meant to work?...gives me a renewed faith in the system...just my $.02 worth" and one worth actually thinking about. First it's important to understand and realize these complaints aren't about cops in general, but about an individual. All the cops I've meet are generally good people and do their job well, which I thank them for just as I do firefighters. But they're also individuals like the rest of us and are not perfect and are liable/capable of acting out of sorts as well. The former Folly Beach cops were some of the finest cops I've had a pleasure meeting. What sticks out the most to me about this issue though is the fact that it's about ONE LONE INDIVIDUAL, atleast for the most part, which to me seems to think there must be SOMETHING this individual is doing that isn't quite right. I'm not here to debate laws or the spirit of them, but rather to point out that this individual in question has had more complaints than anyone else that MUST be addressed, end of story. To say that all these complaints are unwarranted and are irrational is bogus. It's not as if the Folly residents are a coalition that all coincidentally had issues with this individual and are striking out in irrational thought. Power is dangerous and can easily lead to corruption which is why it's always important to keep the enforcers in line. Why do you think there's a four year cap on each presidental appointment? Instead of arguing why not focus on a solution, instead of the problem?
