Re: “How South Carolina's guns end up in the hands of out-of-state criminals

Bloomberg illegally accessed the trace data using his authority as the Mayor of New York. Charleston is a tourist town which sees hundreds of thousands traveling through and to here. At one time most people left their doors unlocked their, It is a hunting state, and a firearms friendly state. So yes there are going to be more than your average trace data coming from here because per square foot there are more guns(also its safer per square foot!) Every hunter has a pistol, and most home owners do too. It was a witch hunt, Mickalis was not the only Charleston gun store to be accused by Bloomberg, but he was the only one that fought the entire fight. In my eyes he won by attrition, just because there was a trace data completed on a gun, does not mean an actual crime is committed with said gun. ie. felon pulled over with a firearm in his possession, a legal gun owner traveling to liberal country or moving that isn't familiar with the gun laws, college students that have changed to an SC residency so that college is cheaper gets caught taking a firearm back home. In Mickalis's case, I do not believe that they released each trace data case and scrutinized it. had they done so, Mikey wouldn't have had a case at all. This was definitely a case of government overreach and an abuse of power case due to the fact that he illegally used FBI trace data(not available to the public) to sue in a civil case not only once but twice(one case In Charleston SC and one in New York City). He also continued to run stings after the ATF told him to cease and desist. I think that had the Firearm community been as large as it is now, then we would be dealing with a much different case. Also to mention this was about the time firearms were starting to take off so there were more manufacturers, and a lot more models than even as close to as two years prior. basically this set a precedent that no one has seen: that a politician can attack a free market business using data that was collected using government credentials to intentionally be misused and twisted to fit a narrative. He was never even approached about the overreach, nor his complete disregard for the rules. He was basically a pre-Hillary
