Re: “Angel Oak Restaurant

We went to Angel Oak to use a Groupon we had purchased in the fall. We couldn't have been more pleased with everything. The decor is really cute. I loved the mismatched napkins and chairs. Our waiter, Dwayne, was one of the best servers I've encountered (and my husband I eat out often). He was very friendly, told us about the couple who owned the restaurant, checked on us multiple times to make sure we had everything we needed. He definitely put our experience over the top. As for the food, it was fantastic. We had the brie en croute, which was just enough food for us to share as a starter. It didn't feel heavy, like cheese can sometimes, and it came with grapes and strawberries, which were a good balance to the cheese/bread. For entrees, we had the salmon and the steak au poivre. I really liked the presentation of all of the food, but the fries in a little brown bag was just perfect! It prevented them from getting soggy from the sauce on the steak. Both entrees were delicious, and the serving size was just right. Not miniscule, like some fancier restaurants, but not oversized either. I think the brussel sprouts that came with the salmon were my favorite part of the meal. They were caramelized with brown sugar and lardons. Yum! It was also nice that we just happened to go on 1/2 price wine night, where they offer 1/2 price on wines by the bottle, but also the glass! It was a perfect weeknight date night! We will defintely be back!

Re: “A new team takes over the old Raul's and turns it Vietnamese

I got take-out here for lunch today - the Pho with the rare beef. It was great. The review says that the beef is more well-done than rare. This is because it's very thin beef that's put in hot soup. It's naturally going to cook. The beef is rare before they put it in the soup. If you get it as take-out, you can see this. I'm very glad Phuong opened, and I can't wait to go back and try the Bánh Xèo.

Re: “Chicken rules the roost at Dorchester Road's Pollo Tropical

My boyfriend and I ate at Pollo Tropical last Friday after reading this review, and it was everything we had hoped it would be! We ordered the 1/4 chicken, 1/4 pork ribs, and steak fajitas plate, which came with two huge plates of beans, rice, and slaw, and, of course, corn tortillas. The meat has tons of grilled flavor, and the sauces they serve with it are very unique and go well with all the meats. We also ordered a side of fried plantains and wished we had ordered three! They were some of the best we've ever had. I can't say enough good things about this place. For the past week, we've been telling everyone we know how much we enjoyed our meal there. We're looking forward to going back soon!

Thank you to Pollo Tropical for cooking authentic food, and thank you to City Paper for introducing me to a place I probably wouldn't have stumbled upon myself.

Re: “Fish

A friend and I went to Fish on Tuesday night for their "Mercy of the Chef" special, and it was amazing. We had three courses paired with wine tastings for $30. Before we even received the first course, we were hooked on the bread, which is served with this sweet teriyaki soy sauce. The three courses were all very flavorful. Neither of us left a bit of food on our plates! The atmosphere is also quite nice. Very serene. We can't wait to go back and try the dim sum and some other regular menu items.
