Clothes Swap for a Cure

When: Mon., Oct. 17 2011
Phone: (843) 225-3104
Price: Free
For the Edge’s Elise Michelle, breast cancer awareness month hits close to home. “My mother is a breast cancer survivor, my aunt is in the middle of her chemo treatments right now, and there are countless other women in my life who have either dealt with the situation personally or know someone who has,” she says. To do her part, she put together the first Clothes Swap for a Cure benefit. Donations of gently used clothing (on a hanger or folded neatly) will be accepted at the venue from 4-8 p.m. until Oct. 15. For each item you donate, you’ll get a ticket for the swap, which you can use at the benefit on Monday. Special items will be presented in a fashion show, and there will be live music from Ben Fagan, Estee Gabay (seen above), the Jacks, Stephanie Schecter, and DJ YouandMe, along with food from the Geechee Island, Tokyo Crepes, and Strada Cucina food trucks. All proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. And that includes bartender tips, so feel free to order a cocktail or two. It’ll make picking out your new clothing more interesting. “It’s not just an issue of awareness, although countless people still do not acknowledge the vast impact dealing with breast cancer has on one’s life and the lives of those close to you,” Michelle says. “It’s about understanding and winning.”
