Re: “Is Lindsey Graham gay?

The vast majority of people here, republican or democrat, have a "to each his own" attitude towards gays. As long as it isn't flaunted in anyone's face it's fine. I can name many very southern, conservative "bachelors", who are well-respected and well liked in their communities. Everyone suspects that they are gay, but no one cares or does anything about it because they are discreet and inoffensive about their lifestyle. Some even live together with a mate and are still fine, because they know how to behave. Decorum is key. This is the same with any sort of relationship, really...people here don't like to have personal stuff flaunted in public, it's just tacky. Divorce, infidelity, etc...these things aren't discussed in polite conversation either.

With regard to the matter of a gay politician voting against gay rights, dishonesty and lack of integrity are not the same thing as being discreet about your private sex life. However, as a public elected official, it is his duty to be true to his constituents and vote his conscience as he feels his constituents would want him to. In all honesty, I would say that the vast majority of south carolinians disapprove of homosexuality (not including myself)so he may be in fact voting based on what his constituents want, rather than what he personally wants. From that perspective he is actually doing a better job than many, who put their own personal agendas ahead of their constituents' needs.
