Re: “Citadel releases statement on photos of cadets in Klan-like attire

As a current cadet, I am embarrassed and ashamed. The reason for no campus wide protest or outrage is because the administration and rules would enact punitive measures against us and this is during finals. I am not making an excuse for myself or my school, the standards should and sadly won't be raised at any point. "Ethics in action" is treated as a joke but race relations are not what this image suggests. I am a minority student. I am outraged and angered at this incident, but I'm infuriated by the fact that this tarnishes my schools public image. Racist depictions, remarks, and actions are rare and far between here. I am embarrassed that these rare and sad moments are what we are known for. As a cadet, I want to apologize for the actions of the few. It's our duty to police ourselves and in that we have failed. The consensus among cadets is an understanding of how truly wrong this is. Nobody is apathetic, everyone here shares the same outrage. Please don't let the actions of those nine poor, misguided, cadets serve as your view of us all. I ask that you forgive and pray for these cadets for although their actions are inexcusable, mongering on anger does nothing.
