Wednesday nights at Park Circle Film Society used to be for the Lowcountry Anime and Gaming Club’s showings, but after the group’s leader moved away last fall, the screen hasn’t been showing any anime. So Nicholai Burton has been searching for something to fill the time — and help raise a little money for the society. “I was hanging out at the Orange Spot and just asked, off-the-cuff, if anyone there would want to go to a live MST3K-style [Mystery Science Theatre 3000] event with local comics,” says Burton. “The reaction was way more enthusiastic than I expected, so I pitched it to neighborhood comic Neil Bansil (who is with the Most Races Show on Earth comedy troupe). He was immediately in and agreed to bring some of his comic friends to participate (Michael Clayton, Andy Rider, Deshawn Mason, Jason Groce).” Park Circle Film Society will get a portion of the proceeds from event, which is hosted at the Sparrow. And Burton wants to make it a monthly occurrence, so if the debut goes well, keep an eye out for it to happen the first Wednesday of every month.
