Christabel and the Jons w/ Mouse Fire

When: Thu., Nov. 6 2008
Price: $5
Led by lovely singer/guitarist Christa DeCicco, the “Appalachian swingers” Christabel & The Jons seem ready to carry the torch for the vintage-minded gypsy-jazz garage bands of the Southeast. Specializing in a cool mix of swing, folk, and country blues, this Knoxville-based combo sounds soulful and laid back, and delivers a sultry stage performance. DeCicco first began writing songs and performing at the wee age of five. She received a B.S. degree in 2003 from the University of Tenn. in Ornamental Horticulture and Landscape Design, and currently works as a freelance gardener. Her band The Jons — Seth Hopper (violin, mandolin, trumpet, accordion, vocals), Jon Whitlock (drums, vocals), and Milly Sue Cavender (upright bass) — recently released their first full-length album, Love & Circumstances. They describe it as “a blend of vintage blues and folk … filled with delicious melodies and tantalizing jazz grooves.” Bearded indie-rock trio Mouse Fire (from Lakeland, Fla.) open the show at 10 p.m. —T.
