Re: “We must look at what our country has become

The problem is that a large portion of the world wants us to stay the way we are. An example of this would be when an American military base in Germany was closed down. This base provided jobs not just for American service men and women but also for Germans living in the vicinity of the base. This in turn made more people move near the base in order to provide the support establishment most people in Western civilization are use to, in the form of restaurants, schools, entertainment and the like. Flash forward to the base's closure. Suddenly a large number of Germans are out of a job and since the US military was the primary source of income for the area people move away to find other jobs. Suddenly there is something of a ghost town with few people still living there. The reaction to this from the Germans was protest against the Americans leaving.

This reaction is mirrored in almost every location the US has a base. The citizenry in the nations we have bases want those bases there. Its all about the economy and the military pours money into other nations in the form of bases which go beyond the obvious of leasing out the land.

Its sad but quite frankly a large number of countries want us to stay because we dump money into them in the form of the military. We help their economies by leasing bases, stationing service men, and hiring workers. The places we've had bases the longest don't complain about them.
