Re: “The reaction to the Secession Gala says as much about its critics as attendees

The Real Lincoln, by Thomas J. DiLorenzo, does a marvelous job of relating the facts of the secession.

The Founders believed ever state had a right to secede at any time. Alexander Hamilton led a secession movement in the years leading up to the War of 1812. He wanted New England to secede for reasons that were very similar to the southern states forty-five years later. The debate at that time was never whether or not secession was Constitutional, rather was it wise?

Over the years, Lincoln proposed three different plans to send all blacks out of the country. The last, while he was in office, was supposed to send them to Liberia. He was swindled out of taxpayer money by a con man on that last one. In Illinois, Lincoln also voted to make it illegal for freed slaves to enter the state, and made numerous speeches which contained vile claims that blacks were inferior to whites. Modern historians tend to ignore those.
