Re: “THE GOOD FIGHT ‌ Onward Christian Fascists

It breaks my heart to see the message of Christ so distorted. In today's culture, the blanket term "Christian" really is haphazardly applied to most anybody as matter-of-factly as their race or gender or political affiliation. If you are not Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, an athiest or devil worshipper...then you must be a Christian by default. Right? Many people who are labeled Christians or claim to be Christians really don't think about Christ very often...or at all. Me claiming to be a doctor certaintly wouldn't make me one. Similarly, slapping on a label of "Christian" on somebody is not going to involve the change of heart that comes along with being a true follower of Jesus. So what is a true "Christian" then? In the Bible Jesus Christ said his mission was "He sent me to preach good news to the poor, heal the heartbroken, Announce freedom to all captives, pardon all prisoners. God sent me to announce the year of his grace" Really a Christian is someone who has acknowledged that he is in fact, not perfect. He has screwed up and is captive to our sinful human nature. We are helpless to ever be good enough to deserve heaven because we are going to keep messing up. Yet amazingly, Jesus came to free us from this bondage of condemnation by saving us from...ourselves. God had enough grace and love for us to give his life for us. For free. So completely illogical, but so completely wonderful. So then once you make this decision to be a Christ follower and let him save you, are you miraculously perfect? No. Christians can be very hypocritical. A lot of times its not on purpose, but its so much easier to be selfish, isn't it? But Jesus' death on the cross accounts for all our past and future screwups. The difference is that Christians have realized their "screw-up" tendancies and that they are in desperate need for a savior. So before we get all slap-happy sticking Christian labels all over anybody who says they are a Southerner, a Republican, or has used the word "God" in the course of their life, lets treat the name of Christ with a little more respect.
