Proving that you’re never too old to have a birthday party, the Charleston Museum celebrates its 237th year with an oyster-shuckin’ bash. Set at the museum’s idyllic Dill Sanctuary on James Island overlooking the Stono River, the annual event features plenty of bivalves as well as barbecue, fixings, and a full bar. Local bluegrass band Blue Plantation will perform throughout the afternoon, and guest naturalist Billy McCord will host a nature walk beginning at 3 p.m. Guests will be able to explore the habitats of the sanctuary and its numerous cultural features including four earthen Confederate batteries as well as prehistoric, colonial, antebellum, and postbellum archaeological sites. Space is limited and advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended. —Erica Jackson
