Charleston Museum 240th Birthday Celebration

When: Sun., Jan. 13, 2-5 p.m. 2013
Phone: (843) 722-2996
Price: $35/member, $50/non-member
The 240th birthday of America’s first museum deserves a real Lowcountry blowout, and that’s exactly what’s happening this Sunday. The Charleston Museum is celebrating in style with tons of oysters, plenty of fixings, and foot-stompin’ bluegrass music along the Stono River. “The beautiful wildlife setting and the unique historical-cultural components make this event truly unique,” says the museum’s assistant director, Carl Borick. Your ticket will get you all-you-can-eat oysters, chili, an open bar, live music by the Blue Plantation Band, and a curator-led history walk through the scenic Dill Sanctuary. The event is not only a birthday party, but also a chance to kick your New Year off right — all proceeds from the event will support the museum’s daily operations, hopefully keeping it open for another 240 years.
