Charleston Duck Race

When: Sat., June 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 2011
Sesame Street’s Ernie said it all when he proclaimed “Rubber duckie, you’re the one.” The little yellow toys are iconic and, as evident by the Charleston Duck Race, are not just limited to the bath tub. On June 4, 30,000 ducks will be let loose in the Wando River at the I-526 Mark Clark Bridge. They’ll travel down to the Daniel Island Waterfront Park Community Pier, and the owners of the first 30 to cross the finish line will share $30,000 in prizes. There’s also a chance for someone to win $1 million. Yes, you read that right. (Of course, it’s $1 million spread out over 40 years, but still, that’s a lot of cash.) For $10, you can adopt a duck. There’s a lot of them, so feel free to stake your claim on more than one. The day will also feature face-painting, jump castles, live music, food, and other family-friendly activities. The race is hosted by the Rotary Club of Daniel Island, who are raising money for the Rotary Community Service Programs.
