Charleston Dog Show

When: Sat., April 27, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. 2013
Price: $10/dog entrance fee
Humans have fashion weeks, dogs have dog shows. This weekend, give your canine companions a chance to strut their stuff in Marion Square. The Charleston Dog Show is an annual family event that showcases the coolest pooches in Charleston, from pound puppies to purebreds. The judges will award winners for each of 13 classes. Those winners will then compete for the distinguished Best in Show trophy. It’s only 10 bucks to enter your dog in the competition, and your money will support a cause beyond just showing off your baby’s beauty. All proceeds will benefit the Greyhound Pets of America-Charleston, The Rescue Village, and Middleton Place Hounds. There is also an exhibition ring for activities like service dog demos and agility trials. “In one past demo, there was a dog trained to help wounded soldiers,” says director Diane Smith. “The dog demonstrated all the help he can give the soldier including picking up a dime from the cement ground and handing it to me.” Outside the rings there will be several vendors, a silent auction with pet art, and a tent where you can get your pets microchipped. “It’s a fun family event for all dogs and the whole family,” says Smith. “It supports our local area rescues and brings our tri-county area together with everyone having a mutual love for four-legged furry friends.”
