A good cause is always something worth shucking for. Charleston Community Sailing hosts its third annual oyster roast at Bowens Island Restaurant on Sunday. Last year’s event raised over $5,000 for local sailing, with the 250 guests going through a whopping 50 bushels of oysters. Expect bluegrass quintet YeeHaw Junction to provide some down-home tunes to put you in the oyster-shucking mood. Multiple shucking stations will be arranged throughout the property with beer, water, and soda included in your admission ticket. An ongoing raffle gives you the chance to score Half-Moon Outfitters gift certificates, sailing charters, and a $1,500 hurricane protection policy so your boat doesn’t get stuck in the pluff mud. All of the proceeds go toward Charleston Community Sailing, which gives inner city kids a chance to get out on the water. The organization also sanctions nine high school sailing teams and organizes summer youth camps. They encourage high school sailors and teams to bring desserts. —Patrick McGinn
