People of every faith are encouraged to join CofC’s Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the 11th annual celebration of Chanukah in the Square this Sunday, before Chanukah begins on Mon. Dec. 7. You can look forward to face painting, a photo booth, make-your-own Chanukah cards, and live music from local band Contraforce, who will be cranking out Chanukah tunes, Klezmer music, and some of their own musical creations. Traditional Jewish food including latkes (potato pancakes) and sufganiyot (donuts) in addition to kosher hamburgers and hotdogs will be available to guests free of charge. To commemorate the holiday and Jewish history, community liaison for the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program Mark Swick says, “Charleston’s local Holocaust survivors will continue the annual tradition of lighting the Chanukah menorah, and brief remarks will be made by Mayor Joe Riley and other dignitaries.”
