After making their triumphant debut on the stage of Carnegie Hall on May 22, Chamber Music Charleston is celebrating their return to the Holy City with a Homecoming Concert. Until recently, the ensemble has kept its performance fairly close to home, but that’s changing, says Sandra Nikolajevs, President and Artistic Director at Chamber Music Charleston. “About two years ago we were looking towards our future goals, and we decided to look outside of Charleston,” she says. “I tend to think big, and I immediately thought it would be amazing to showcase [our group] at such a renowned stage as Carnegie Hall.” The same group of artists who made the trek up north — Frances Hsieh (violin), Nonoko Okada (violin), Ben Weiss (viola), Timothy O’Malley (cello), Regina Helcher (flute), and Sandra Nikolajevs (bassoon) — will play for the Piccolo Spoleto concert. New York-based pianist Andrew Armstrong, who frequently plays with CMC, will also them for the show. The program will feature works by Mozart, Brahms, and Gershwin, as well as the world premiere of a new work by Terry Vosbien. The performance will be followed by a garden reception with the musicians in the courtyard of the cathedral. Part of Piccolo Spoleto.
