The Avian Conservation Center for Birds of Prey welcomes award-winning nature author Barry Lopez to the Charleston Museum for a guest speaker presentation and book signing. Lopez is best known for his National Book Award-winning nonfiction work Arctic Dreams, and he has also written a number of nonfiction and fiction books on travel and the environment. Lopez’s immense knowledge of natural landscapes and wildlife will provide an enlightening perspective on the lecture topic “Conservation and the Human Community.” Kara Bale from the Avian Conservation Center says, “Barry Lopez is a profound thinker who has traveled extensively throughout the world, experiencing nature throughout different geographies and cultures. He has an extraordinary ability to translate his experiences into a better understanding of the natural world and how it relates to us all.” Following the presentation, enjoy a reception with light hors d’oeuvres and beer and wine. Lopez will be available to sign copies of his books, which are currently being sold at Blue Bicycle Books at 420 King Street. Space is limited, and advanced ticket purchase is suggested. —SC
