Re: “The Charleston Lie

Mr or Ms Leghorn clearly did not understand the motivation of the original piece. CHS has always been a city with a diverse population. NOT equal in wealth distribution by any means, but as that disparity is recognized parity can start to be addressed-hopefully.
The writer GETS IT - without rancor that her neighborhood contains not only diverse neighbors, but in some cases dangerous situations. Her family lives with this reality & appreciates it. The pedi-cab driver(s) know nothing about the area & spout nonsense!

Re: “Question #7: Making the cost of living align with wages in Charleston

Of all the candidates' responses I really only see two who really answered the question with thoughtful solutions. And Ginny Deerin has the best one. That said, I don't think we have to be a city of just "foodies." Although it's a big part of who we are, we are so much more! We have a thriving arts community, a deep non-profit sector and an ever-growing tech industry. I like what Ginny Deerin says about providing training in the tech area to people because that allows them to take advantage of whatever area their interest may be in...even the food industry, where that expertise could take them into management. And having that background will take them farther no matter where they are - Charleston and beyond. It's a win/win.
