Re: “Folly Beach Residents Report Police Harassment

This article has been brought to my attention and I was somewhat surprised at the "Bashing of Deputy James". I have worked with him for several years and know he is a very aggresive Deputy. But I also know he is fair. I know people reading this are already assuming that I am coming to his defense , I am not , he is capable of that himself. What I do want is to defend Law Enforcement as a whole. We do this job for YOU! We get paid sub-par and put up with more than you will ever know , from seeing death on a regular basis to armed bad guys. I have lived here in Charleston all my life and surfed Folly for years. Folly was always infamous for speeding tickets. It is a very laid back place , but the law is the law. When I was growing up, my parents always told me that after Midnight the only two people out were criminals and victims , I still believe this today. Most deaths , robberies and assults happen after this time. If your stoned and have weed - stay home. If your drunk and out - call a cab. Don't walk and chance being hit by a car, let alone ride a bike. I agree with knowing your rights and if violated by anyone - they should be accountable. But come on- these things are isolated and if true should be brought to the attention of your City Council, not a paper. Give Deputy James a break and maybe try stopping and talking to him when you see him. You may be surprised by how nice a person he is.
