Can't Kids

When: Sat., July 21 2012
Price: $5
Columbia-based indie-rock quartet Can’t Kids are an up-and-coming act with an unusually upbeat and playful style. Singer/guitarist Adam Cullum (ex-Magnetic Flowers, Falling Off a Building) and singer/drummer Jessica Oliver initially formed the band as a duo in 2010, performing under the name Dawn Shredder. They eventually enlisted cellist Amy Cuthbertson and bassist Henry Thomas to the lineup and started developing a clangy, percussive, shouty sound. Oliver defines the group as “a Southern-Gothic Depression-era cheerleader-metal band.” Paste magazine recently pegged them as one of the 10 top bands from the Columbia scene that deserves serious attention. They’ve already impressed local fans with spazzy performances at the Sparrow, the Tattooed Moose, and Communications Museum. Can’t Kids recently recorded a debut album titled Brushes, Touches, Tongues. The collection is due this month on the Fork & Spoon label. (Local group Sir Greendown had to cancel). 10 p.m.
