We don’t know what a cabooty is any more than you do, but we do know that it helps raise money for kids fighting cancer. Going on its 23rd year now, the Cabooty Holiday Party benefits Camp Happy Days, which offers summer camps and other activities completely free of charge to children with cancer. The first Cabooty Party, organized by Allan “Cabooty” Cabading, was a simple tree-trimming party in Cabading’s apartment, with food cooked by his mom. To say it’s outgrown its original venue would be an understatement. “It gets bigger and bigger every year,” says Camp Happy Days’ Eleanor Smythe. “It’s because the cause is so great — kids kicking cancer.” This year, guests will flock to Memminger Auditorium where they can dance to music by Plane Jane and snack on food by Gray’s Restaurant and Rita’s Seaside Grill. And the silent auction will have some unique alternative items in addition to the usual offerings. “If you don’t want to bid on any of the items, you can sponsor a child and send them to camp,” Smythe says. That warms our hearts way more than another spa package.
