Brought to You By the Letter C attracts a crazy cast of characters

The C Word

Chai’s hosted a charity costume party Friday night dedicated to the coolest of consonants. The Brought to You By the Letter C event drew an impressive array of celebrities, including Caesar and Cleopatra, Cookie Monster, the Coneheads, a Corona bottle, and Charlie Chaplin.

Costume teams, including teams of one, registered and were required to raise at least $50 in order to enter the drawing for prizes, which ranged from a Cinnebarre gift certificate to harbor tour tickets. Local celebrity judges included the Lowcounty Highrollers, jazz drummer Quentin Baxter, artist Nathan Durfee, and Theatre 99 comedians Tahlia Robinson and Andy Livengood, while poet Marcus Amaker MC’d. Groups were awarded prizes for best dance moves, most popular costumes, and the amount of money raised.

Guests danced the night away as DJs Rocky Horror and Party Dad played old club favorites and funky feel-good tunes. Walking around the patio felt like an endless game of charades. The most interesting team included a group with elements of the periodic table: Cranium, Chloride, Carbon, and so on.

The $6,624 raised at the event benefits Sidewalk Chalk, a nonprofit organization that provides free arts and writing workshops for elementary and middle school students in Charleston County School District. If Sesame Street was made for adults, this event would be the result.
