Re: “Caliente

There was a terrible shortage of great Mexican fare in Charelston until Caliente came to town. My wife and I love this place and have probably been 4-5 times since it opened a bit over a month ago. I'd already placed a great review for Caliente but I see it was removed?

Anyway, where else are you going to get a beef brisket chimichonga with chipotle sour cream? I love the puffy tacos and at this point I've had just about everything on the menu and it has all been consistently great. These folks are working hard and even though they are new, they are providing a great experience.

I don't know about you, but I go to a restaurant for the food, not the drinks and if you are complaining for paying an arm and a leg for alcohol then pre-game before you go out. This is a boutique eating establishment, not a hole in the wall bar. And you won't find Mexican this good at this price anywhere else.

Adam M. (don't delete me please, I have no affiliation with Caliente other than the fact that I love Mexican food)

Re: “Haley's pro-business message would eliminate sales tax relief

How many people are making just above the food stamps level and why are they only making this much money? Could it be a more systemic issue of businesses large and small being taxed and regulated so much that they can't pay higher wages to those who honestly earn them? I would bet that if the income tax were abolished you wouldn't see people in precarious financial situations unless they just live beyond their means. For those that needed help, folks would be more liberal with their giving. Personally, I'd be better able to help my fellow man financially were my income not robbed 20-30% every paycheck.

Re: “Haley's pro-business message would eliminate sales tax relief

@Arty - government does not secure our freedom.

@everyone else - If we can get the state income tax repealed, people would have more money to pay their taxes to help progressive ideas such as government providence of infrastructure etc.

I work just like everyone else does and it deflates me every time I get my paycheck and I see I'm robbed by the national govt of my income and then I get robbed again by the state of SC (withholding). You guys are yelling about a 3% sales tax increase??? Don't you pay more than that in state income taxes??? If not, I'd like a card from your accountant.

Re: “Too bad he did it after he was politically dead

There is nothing wrong with a movement like the Tea Party or Coffee party or Jack Daniels party trying to reign in an out of control government and keep crony politicians accountable. There is a problem when neocons like Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrinch try to co-opt a movement like the Tea Party that can do a lot of good in restoring our republic and upholding the Constitution and the rule of law.

Bob Inglis and Lindsay Graham are not representing the people well. That is why they lose and will lose respectively. Neoconservative Republicans that want to play politics and not get anything done will lose in a political and economic climate like this just like Democrats doing the same thing. The people are sick and tired of heavy taxation, decreases in liberties, more war, and government encroachment into their lives.

To Zaftig, why is it a good thing to be Democratic in your mind or Republican for that matter? Do you feel as I do that the two party paradigm is a purposefully devised trap of division for Americans to fall into? I am anxious to hear how you feel that "teabaggers" are ignoring history. Please enlighten.

Re: “Charleston gets Caliente

I love this place. My wife and I went last week and we will probably go again tonight. Food is really really good! This is not your chain Mexican food. This is a husband/wife team who flat out know how to cook. Love the cozy feel of this place. Staff took great care of us.
