Boeing jobs up for grabs

Potential for off-site facility with staff of 150

Boeing announced today that it is on the hunt for a 150-person facility to take care of interior bells and whistles for the 787 Dreamliner. Very hush hush on the cost and potential sites, but it reminds us of a story contributor Dan McCue did in March on how municipalities were trying to lure sister-sites for the North Charleston plant.

In the state of the town address, Mt. Pleasant Mayor Billy Swails told residents that the city was courting suppliers.

"We've had some very encouraging meetings with representatives from Boeing," he said.

Riley calls the potential impact of Boeing's arrival nothing short of extraordinary.

"It's a tremendous opportunity. And I think we all need to do whatever we can to avail ourselves of it to the fullest," he says.

In his State of the City address, Riley announced (in February) that he'd formed a task force charged with doing everything it can to support Boeing and the other businesses and services expected to come along with it.
