Re: “Reviewing Husk: the method behind this week’s food review

Very good food and excellent service. However, one aspect of my experience may deter me from returning to Husk.

We dined there last Saturday evening with friends and had a very pleasant time. However, the evening was tainted when I receieved the bill. On it was a charge of $1.00 per drink for ice cubes. I found this to be very tacky if, not somewhat insulting. This may seem to be very petty but, when my date's house wine was $13.50 per glass and my drinks were $10.00 each, I was taken aback when I saw the additional charge of $1.00 per drink for two ice cubes. We are downtown locals and frequently dine out in the good establishments in Charleston and have never seen this type of fee before.

When the buzz about Husk dies down and the tourists are not in town, restaurants rely upon the local for support during these dead times of the year. Given this experience, I am not sure we will go back. You should have just charged more money for my drinks and I would never have questioned anything.

Re: “A review of Fred Neuville's Wild Olive

Are you sure you didn't miss the turn for the Wild Olive and end up at some Olive Garden? Or perhaps you have an inherent bias against "able-bodied Yankees" that clouded your assessment of the Wild Olive since you dedicated a full paragraph of your review to this.

We have been there several times and find the Wild Olive to be an excellent place to dine. The food is very good and is definitely better then any Italian eatery in the downtown area. The staff, although a little stretched, are friendly, knowledgeable and are very customer oriented. We have not had all the dishes there but, one ones we have eaten were properly prepared with the correct flavor and cooked to our liking. The pastry chef prepares her desserts with flair yet excellence and, it shows in her final product.

Let me add that we reside downtown and have eaten at virtually every restaurant there and the Wild Olive would fit in very well as one of the better places downtown. Because of that, we are more than willing to make the drive to Johns Island to experience the great food and atmosphere at the Wild Olive.

For those of you who may avoid this place because of Jeff's review, you will be missing out on a very good restaurant and an enjoyable dining experience.

Oh and Jeff, next time you go there, be sure to put the Wild Olive in your GPS and not the Olive Garden.
