BLUME

When: Thu., Oct. 14 2010
Blume returns this month for its sixth installment, celebrating Charleston’s ever-growing contemporary art scene with a night of visual virtuosity and aural artistry. Blume stays where it was planted at Club Pantheon, which has proven to be a fitting venue in the past. For a night, the club becomes half art gallery, half dance club, with time-themed works on display from local artists along with musical performances. Scheduled for the night is West Coast performance artist Nicky Click. Click should provide plenty of entertainment for the night, courtesy of her queer-centered electro and reputation for hyper-sexualized live shows. Also scheduled is live painting by Anson Cyr and Amanda Downey and live screenprinting. All proceeds from Blume go toward funding the Receiver Fest, another time-based festival taking place in March. Festival creator Liz Vaughn says both Blume and Receiver function as a way for contemporary artists to make their voices heard in Charleston. “A lot of contemporary art is time-based, and we don’t have a venue for time-based art,” Vaughn says, “This is our chance to take over the city for a weekend.” —Jansen Cumbie
