Boogie by the bay. Just a few miles before Folly Beach, there's an island of legend called Bowens. It's blessed with a bounty of fried oysters and shrimp, and sunsets beautiful enough to convince carpetbaggers to put their house on the market and move south. Come Piccolo Spoleto time, it gets even better, when Charleston's best blues acts plug in their Telecasters and shake-it-on-down over the water.

Sax for everyone. The Louie D Project may not be your typical blues band, but music lovers of any type will yell for more when King Louie holds court at Bowens. They also won't be complaining when 18-year-old phenom Wyatt Garey tears up his ax. Fans of the Grateful Dead's Pigpen era can call out the group's old blues favorites for the Hungry Monks.

Get your feet wet. Did we mention that this venue is literally built over the water on a staggeringly beautiful tidal creek? Sit by the water in the evening, swing your feet off the dock, and don't be embarrassed to ask the band to play some Otis Redding. They're not strict on the interpretation of "blues" around here.
